45% of Americans feel their job has caused their weight gain. This past Spring, Careerbuilder caught up with almost 4,000 private sector American employees and discovered some interesting revelations on just how much jobs impact employee health
56% of the workforce considers themselves overweight
25% of survey respondents stated they have gained 10 to 20 pounds in their current job
But why are we gained weight??
1. Sedentary Careers
2. Stress-related eating
3. Workplace weariness . . . were all found to possibly contribute to this reality.
What factors & behaviors contribute directly to this weight gain?
Sitting at desk most of the day (51%)
Too tired from work to exercise (45%)
Eating because of stress (38%)
No time to exercise before or after work (38%)
Eating out regularly (24%)
Having to skip meals because of time constraints (19%)
Workplace celebrations (18%)
Temptation of the office candy jar (16%)
Pressure to eat food co-workers bring in (8%)
Happy hours (4%).
Additionally
1/3 of respondents state they are too tired to exercise
59% are exercising regularly
